Spend Your Spring Break in the Smoky Mountains
Published Dec 28, 2020Spring break is your chance for a family getaway with outdoor adventures and unique local events. Stay with us for spring break and you’re close to all the fun.
Get Active Outdoors
You won’t roast or freeze—our average high temperatures are 64 degrees in March and 70 in April.
Explore the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Visit historic homesteads. You’ll find easy hikes for kids and challenging hikes for teens and adults. Prefer to ride the trails? Both experienced and novice riders can trek the park on horseback. (You can rent horses at stables in the park.) Go fishing in valley streams or climb high for breathtaking views at Clingmans Dome.
Down in the valleys, take a river rafting tour with experts like those at Raft Outdoor Adventures. Shoot the rapids and get ready to get wet
Enjoy Family Fun
Feed the need for speed with go-karting, coasters, and ziplines. At Adventure Raceway, drive your kart around three levels of elevated track, and then try their “bumper boats” for water fun. The Track family fun center has an elevated track as well as arcade games and rides. Mountain coasters are another local favorite. Swerve along curved tracks on your individual coaster car. Younger kids can ride with adults so everyone enjoys downhill excitement.
Try ziplining—there are plenty of places to zipline here, like Smoky Mountain Ziplines with its seven lines high in the forest canopy.
Challenge the kids to a mini-golf tournament. Play among dragons at Fantasy Golf or fuel up on favorite sweets at Crave Golf Club, the candy-themed mini-golf course.
Want something that’s uniquely Tennessee? Spend a day at Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Park. Ride a one-of-a-kind “zipline roller coaster,” leap from an 80-foot-high free-fall jump, or try a lumberjack-themed ropes course.
Make Memories at Special Events
Spring warms up the event calendar here in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Here are just a few offerings:
Join the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage, a celebration of all things wild. Take guided nature walks and learn to identify native flowers, birds, and mammals. Get expert advice on nature photography, journaling, and more.
Book tickets for Ober Mountain’s Spring Fling. Spend the day amazed at the ski jump, slalom, and other skiing contests, then watch the crowd-pleasing “pond skimming” event where downhill racers end up trying to “surf” along a pond!
Got a car lover in the family? Experience classic car shows —in March, there’s one just for Mustangs and another devoted to Corvettes. In April the “Spring Rod Run” brings hundreds of classic cars here.
