An old-fashioned general store is more than a place to shop. It’s a destination that’s part history, part craft gallery, part candy shop, and all fun! These are six of the area’s best general stores.
1. Ogle Brothers General Store
Ogle Brothers General Store sits on property the family has owned since 1925. That history inspired today’s Ogles to open the shop as a tribute to East Tennessee. Ogle Brothers sells pottery so local, you can watch the potters making it right in front of you. The store stocks jams and jellies, candles, candies, clothing, gifts, rustic decor and more.
2. The Old Mill General Store
The specialty here is the grains ground next door in Pigeon Forge’s historic Old Mill, built in 1830. Take home cornmeal and flours you know are as fresh as can be. The General Store sells cooking and baking supplies and utensils, syrups, jams and jellies, toys and t-shirts, and Smoky Mountain crafts and gifts.
3. Old Dad’s General Store
Come hungry! Grab an egg biscuit for breakfast or a cheeseburger for lunch, because Old Dad’s is a grill, deli and grocery as well as a general store. Homemade cupcakes and muffins are specialties. Pick up your hiking, camping and fishing supplies here, then browse local crafts and gifts.
4. Three Bears General Store
Make your own toy bear to take home, get luscious ice cream or fudge, visit the Old Time Photo Studio or play arcade games at this huge general store. Alongside general store goodies you’ll find name-brand items like Simply Southern clothing, Tervis tumblers and Pandora jewelry. Three Bears is also home to rescued black bears, unable to live in the wild. You can observe the bears in their habitat here.
5. Hillside General Store at Dollywood
Sit on the front porch and play checker. There’s no rush at this store in Dollywood’s Craftsman’s Valley. Shop for country decor, Dollywood and Tennessee souvenirs and crafts, food and more. Send your friends a postcard and get a Dollywood postmark!
6. Harper Brothers Mountain General Merchandise Store
Food and toys, clothing for the whole family, household goods and kitchenware--Harper Brothers has it all, plus gifts and crafts. Plus, the store is home base for two new attractions. Enjoy breathtaking views on the Hawk Skylift and ride horses at Smoky Mountain Horses.
