Everything You Need to Know About the Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster
Published Mar 31, 2025
Live your NASCAR dreams on the new Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster. This mountain coaster boasts side-by-side tracks, specially designed so you race against the rider on the track directly next to yours! Here’s what to expect from America’s first true racing coaster when it opens in spring 2025.
What is a “mountain coaster”?
Also called gravity coasters or alpine coasters, these rides use gravity to propel your coaster car along a track. This isn’t a powered roller coaster like you’ll find at a theme park. Mountain coasters use ramps, spirals, and turns to create inclines, so gravity can do its thing. You use a handbrake to control your own speed on an alpine coaster. Gravity coasters aren’t as high as roller coasters, but pack plenty of speed and excitement if you’re daring enough!
How is the Racing Coaster different from other mountain coasters?
The Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster will feature side by side tracks the entire length of the coaster, and the ability to race against the car next to yours.
What will the ride be like?
Here’s a breakdown of the ride after your coaster car pulls out of the station:
- Navigate two 360-degree turns.
- Ride up two lift hills. On a lift hill, a mechanism pulls your car uphill to position you for a thrilling downhill glide.
- Ride another spiral turn.
- The finale is a doozy: Enter at the top of a 80-foot-high spiral tower, and loop around and around as you descend. How high is this spectacular finish? It’s like riding down from the top of an eight-story building!
You’ll experience views of the Smoky Mountains and downtown Pigeon Forge while you fly along the track. But you might be more focused on whether your competitor is catching up to you!
When does the Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster open?
The coaster will debut in spring, 2025. Keep an eye on the coaster’s website for the grand opening date and ticket prices. You could be one of the first to conquer this unusual racing ride.
