Mom's Perfect Vacation to the Smoky Mountains

Published Jan 11, 2021

Moms deserve to relax, both with and without the kids—not just on Mother’s Day, but whenever they can. A beautiful cabin in the mountains is a great start to a mother’s vacation. Here are some ways to make mom’s time off extra special.

1. Embrace "Me-Time" for Mother's Day

Me time can mean an afternoon for shopping on your own at Pigeon Forge boutiques or craft stores. Or book an in-cabin massage or spa treatment, bringing indulgence right to your door.

Chill in your cabin. Soak in the hot tub outside while you gaze at the view, or relax in your bedroom’s jetted tub. Catch up on that show you’ve been meaning to watch. Read a book on the deck while you drink traditional Tennessee fruit wine. The kids can stay busy playing pool or arcade games in the game room, watching movies on their own TVs, or hanging out on their bunk beds. Book a cabin with amenities to keep everyone out of mom’s hair.

2. Try Something New

Never been rafting, but always wanted to try? Make Mother’s Day an adventure. The Smoky Mountains offer whitewater rafting (even for novices!), plus Jeep tours, guided nature walks, ziplines, skiing, snowboarding, challenging hikes, and much more.

3. Enjoy a Romantic Dinner

Perched on a mountain ridge, The Greenbrier Restaurant serves steaks and American fare. Share savory and sweet fondues with your honey at The Melting Pot, a unique way to spend a date night.

Want to stay in? Order delivery or takeout food. Whether you want your favorite fast food indulgences or local treats like barbecue or freshly baked cakes, you can get whatever you’re craving delivered to your cabin door.

4. Keep the Kids Busy So You Can Relax

If you’re bringing the kids on your getaway, never fear—there’s so much for them to do. Older kids are welcome at some terrific venues without a parent, freeing you for shopping, coffee, or a leisurely lunch on your own! Dollywood admits unaccompanied kids who are 13 or older, while the hands-on interactive museum WonderWorks admits unaccompanied kids starting at age 14.

Spend time making memories with the kids, too. Play together at Dollywood’s Splash Country water park. Light a fire for them in your cabin’s outdoor fire pit and make s’mores.
