Snow Tubing at Ober Mountain in Gatlinburg

Snow Tubing at Ober Mountain in Gatlinburg

Snow tubing is a blast for all ages, and it’s never too soon to plan your downhill adventures at Gatlinburg’s Ober Mountain theme park. Use this handy guide to get the most out of this terrific activity.

When does Ober Mountain open its snow tubing hill?

Snow tubing kicks off in the fall, so watch Ober’s website for opening day details.

We’ve never tried snow tubing! What should we expect?

When you’re ready to start your session, Ober staff will hand you a tube. This is a colorful, inflated donut designed to whisk you over snow, with a smooth, fast ride.

Step aboard the Magic Carpet, a special escalator that carries you uphill. At the top, you’ll sit on your snow tube, then ride it downhill along a track carved out of snow. At the bottom, just hop back onto the Magic Carpet again to start another run. You get 90 minutes on the hill to make all the tubing runs you can fit in!

How big is the tubing hill?

This hill gives you enough height to build up an exciting ride. Ober’s tubing hill is 350 feet long, with a total drop of 50 feet.

If it hasn’t snowed in Gatlinburg, is the tubing hill closed?

No snow? No problem. The hill gets a coating of fresh, real water snow from Ober’s Snow Magic machines. These top-of-the-line machines create long-lasting snow even when temperatures are above freezing.

How much does snow tubing cost?

Snow tubing prices haven’t been announced yet for the 2025-2026 season. In the past, tubing has cost $40 to $45 for a 90-minute session. Kids ages 3 and 4 go tubing for free, riding with a paying adult. There’s no general admission fee to enter Ober–you pay for each activity you want to do. Ober also offers year-round attractions including ice skating, ziplining, mountain biking, a wildlife center and much more.

Can young kids go tubing?

Yes! Kids ages 3 through 5, or who are less than 42 inches tall, must ride on an adult’s lap. Kids 6 and older, and at least 42 inches tall, can ride solo. Tubing isn’t open to children 2 and under.
