5 Tips for Choosing a Smoky Mountain Cabin for Large Groups

Make memories with loved ones, surrounded by the breathtaking Smoky Mountains! Bring the whole family or all your friends to a large group cabin in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge.

Check out Colonial Properties’ group cabins at the link here. You’ll find cabins ready to accommodate groups as big as 34! Enjoy fully equipped kitchens, spacious living areas, and pampering extras like hot tubs and home theaters. Here are five things to consider when finding the perfect group cabin.

Set a budget and communicate clearly.

Who’s paying? Will some pay more than others? Determine the budget and put it in writing. Remember, a large cabin can be more affordable than a hotel when you share the costs.

Look for extra space indoors and outdoors.

Find a cabin with enough gathering spaces so folks aren’t crowded together in one living room when you hang out. Look for cabins with a second living area, a loft den, a spacious dining area, or all of the above. Don’t forget that the great outdoors is yours, too! Look for cabins with decks, fire pits, and swimming pools for the whole gang to share.

Consider the amenities.

Large cabins often boast more amenities than small ones. Ask everyone for a wish list of what would make their getaway memorable. Search listings for a large cabin with their most requested extras, like a movie theater room or game room.

Find the right location.

Is everyone eager to visit Dollywood? Are you in town for sports at The Ripken Experience or a hot rod show in Pigeon Forge? Look for group cabins close to whatever you’re attending, or close to attractions on your must-see list.

Plan sleeping arrangements before you go.

“Who gets which bedroom?” can turn into a competition. Here’s how to prevent that:

  • Sleeper sofas, lofts and bunk rooms count as sleeping space Not everyone may need, or get, a bedroom.
  • Use online photos to become familiar with the layout.
  • Ask: Who needs an ensuite bath, or a ground floor bedroom, due to mobility or other issues? Who can’t manage climbing into a bunk bed–and who would love one? Do parents need a room close to where their kids will sleep?
  • Agree on bedroom choices in advance, to avoid “first come, first served” debates!
