4 Tips for Finding the Perfect Pet-Friendly Cabin in the Smoky Mountains

Bring your pet along on your Smoky Mountains vacation! Pick a pet-friendly cabin and your furry family member will be as comfortable as the people are. To find a pet owner’s ideal cabin, follow these four tips. We’ll talk about dogs here, since our policies limit guests’ pets to dogs.

1. Limit Your Search to Pet-Friendly Cabins

Not all cabins allow pets. If you plan to bring your furry family member, set website search filters to show you only pet-friendly cabins. At Colonial Properties, we make searches simple by listing all our pet-friendly cabins on our website.

2. Look at Outdoor Amenities

Look for a yard where your pup can play. Check out the open green space at Bear Crossing, or the large, fenced yard at Deer Lodge. No yard? No problem. Decks also make great hangouts where you and your dog can relish the fresh air. Elk Lodge boasts three wraparound decks for your best friend to enjoy.

3. Consider Cabins Through a Dog’s Eyes

A curious dog might need the space and stimulation of a larger cabin to explore. If your older dog sleeps with you, but doesn’t climb stairs easily, consider cabins where your bedroom is on the main level. Is your dog an escape artist? Look for a cabin located away from busy roads, just in case Rover bolts.

4. Review Pet Policies

Pay special attention to the pet policies in your rental contract, so you know what to expect. Ask these questions. We’ve given you our Colonial Properties rules here.

  • Can I bring any type of pet? No, dogs are the only kind of animal permitted.
  • How many dogs can we bring? Two dogs can join you on your Smokies vacation.
  • Is there a size limit? Yes. Canine guests must weigh 25 pounds or less.
  • Does the cabin have a pet fee? Colonial cabins require a nonrefundable fee of $50 per dog. Check the policy to see what the fee does and doesn’t cover.
  • Do I have to crate my dog? Our policy requires guests to crate unattended dogs, so be sure to bring your dog’s familiar crate with you. This keeps your dog, and the cabin, safe and secure while you’re out.
