Grotto Falls Trail

Grotto Falls is a picturesque 25-foot waterfall tucked inside a cool mountain cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s the only waterfall in the park where hikers can actually walk behind the cascading water, making it one of the most unique and memorable waterfall experiences in the Smokies.

To reach the falls, visitors hike 2.6 miles roundtrip along Trillium Gap Trail. The path crosses small streams and winds through lush old-growth forest and rhododendron thickets before arriving at the waterfall. After passing behind the falls, the trail continues uphill toward Mount LeConte for those looking to extend their adventure. Whether you stop at the falls or hike farther, Grotto Falls offers a refreshing and unforgettable Smoky Mountain experience.
