Metcalf Bottoms Trail

Metcalf Bottoms Trail is one of the easiest family-friendly walks in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Beginning at the popular Metcalf Bottoms picnic area, the trail heads northeast for less than a mile through a peaceful forest setting before reaching the historic Little Greenbrier School.

Many hikers combine this route with Little Brier Gap Trail to continue on to the Walker Sisters Cabin. The full journey makes for a rewarding 3.6-mile roundtrip hike that blends easy walking with a meaningful look at Smoky Mountain history. It’s a wonderful option for families who want a relaxed outdoor experience with a touch of heritage along the way.
