Downhill Mountain Biking at Ober Mountain in Gatlinburg

Published Aug 29, 2023

Mountain bikers can shred 11 new, downhill-only trails on Gatlinburg’s Ober Mountain! Conquer the trails on your own bike or rent a trail bike for an adrenaline rush like no other. Here’s what to expect.

Now Open for Downhill Thrills

Ober’s bike trails give you the downhill thrill without the uphill slog: A chairlift carries you and your bike to the breathtaking mountaintop, 3,208 feet high. You can focus all your energy on the trek down! Professionally designed and maintained, these custom-built trails include safety features.

A bike area ticket costs $49 but you can get more for your money if you buy the Ober admission wristband, which includes bike area access. The wristband gives you access to all Ober’s attractions, including an alpine slide, mountain coaster, ice skating, bumper cars, rock climbing, a wildlife habitat and more. An Ober wristband costs $49 for ages 5 through 59, and $39 for ages 60 and up.

Trails for All Skill Levels

Easy and intermediate trails give new and occasional riders a chance to try downhill mountain biking for the first time, or challenge themselves with a tougher course. Trails include three “black diamond” trails for experienced riders. One difficult “double black diamond” trail–the “Hellbender”--awaits the boldest, best riders.

Ober has two terrain parks, with man-made features such as jumps, drops and berms. Riders can practice skills to prepare for the trails or just enjoy the challenge of terrain park riding on its own.

Rentals and Lessons

No bike? No worries. Rent all the gear you need. Ober meticulously maintains its rental bikes for the best performance. You’re welcome to bring your own mountain bike, too, but Ober requires all bikes to meet specific suspension standards. Call for details so you know what to expect.

Bike rental is $49 and includes a full-face helmet and protective pads. Helmets are required for all riders. If you bring your own bike you can rent a helmet and pads for $29.

Ober’s experts offer lessons for all skill levels. A 90-minute lesson is $45.

Opening Hours

Check Ober’s schedule because mountain biking is open seasonally. After Labor Day, trails are open weekends only, and the bike area closes for the season after Oct. 8.

After a day zipping down the mountain, you’ll need the total relaxation only a luxurious cabin can provide! Check out Gatlinburg cabin rentals close to Ober Mountain today.
