Cabins with Fireplaces in Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, TN

There's a specific kind of evening that only a fireplace makes possible: the one where the temperature has dropped outside, the mountain air smells like woodsmoke, and nobody particularly wants to go anywhere. A crackling fire in the cabin turns a good Smoky Mountain trip into something that feels genuinely different from the rest of the year. It's one of the most requested features in our entire inventory — and one of the most reliable ways to make a vacation feel like a vacation.

Colonial Properties offers cabin rentals with fireplaces across Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville — from cozy 1-bedroom cabins with a stone hearth at the center of the living room to large group lodges with multiple fireplaces spanning several floors. Whether you're after a classic wood-burning fireplace with a real stone surround, the convenience of a gas log setup that lights with a switch, or a contemporary cabin with an electric fireplace, this collection covers all three.

Gas, Wood-Burning & Electric Fireplaces: What to Expect

Not all cabin fireplaces are the same, and knowing the difference before you book saves surprises on arrival.

Gas fireplaces are the most common type in our Smoky Mountain cabin rentals. They light instantly, require no firewood, and produce consistent heat with controllable flame. Most are set into stone or brick surrounds that look and feel like traditional mountain fireplaces. The visual effect is warm and attractive, and the convenience — especially for groups arriving late or leaving early — is hard to beat.

Important seasonal note: All fireplaces in our Smoky Mountain cabin rentals — gas, wood-burning, and electric — are operational from October 1 through late February only. Outside of this window, fireplaces are not in operation. If a working fireplace is central to your trip, plan your visit within the October–February season.

Wood-burning fireplaces offer the full sensory experience — the crackle, the smell, the real fire. Several of our cabins feature authentic stone wood-burning fireplaces, some rising floor to ceiling with hand-laid river rock. Firewood is not supplied; guests are responsible for bringing their own or purchasing locally. Several hardware stores, convenience shops, and roadside stands in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg sell firewood bundles. Do not burn treated, painted, or green wood in cabin fireplaces.

Electric fireplaces are available in a number of our cabins, often in contemporary-style properties. Like all fireplaces in our collection, electric fireplaces are available October 1 through late February. Check individual listings to confirm fireplace type.

The Smoky Mountains + a Fireplace: The Best Seasons

All fireplaces in our Smoky Mountain cabin rentals — gas, wood-burning, and electric — are available from October 1 through late February. Outside of this window, fireplaces are not in operation. Here's how the seasons within that window shape the fireplace experience:

Fall (September–November): Peak season for fireplace use — and peak season in general. Evenings cool quickly once the sun sets in the mountains, and a fire after a day of watching the foliage turn is one of the defining Smoky Mountain experiences. Fall foliage peaks mid-October through early November; book well in advance for this window.

Winter (December–February): The fireplace earns its keep most in winter. Cold temperatures, the possibility of snow on the ridges, and significantly lower nightly rates make a winter fireplace cabin one of the best-value experiences in the Smokies. Evenings by the fire with a hot tub outside waiting are particularly popular with couples and small groups.

Spring (March–May): Fireplaces are not in operation during spring. If you're visiting in March through May and want an outdoor fire experience, look for a cabin with a fire pit — a great alternative as the weather warms up.

Summer (June–August): Fireplaces are not in operation during summer months. If you're booking a summer trip and a fireplace is important to your stay, plan for fall or winter instead — or consider a fire pit cabin as a warm-weather alternative.

Fireplace + Other Amenities Worth Pairing

A fireplace pairs naturally with:

  • Fireplace + hot tub — the quintessential Smoky Mountain evening: hot tub on the deck, fire inside; the most popular combination in our collection by a wide margin
  • Fireplace + mountain views — watch the ridgeline from the window while the fire crackles; several of our best view properties have dramatic stone fireplaces
  • Fireplace + fire pit — fire inside and out; great for groups who want the option to gather outdoors
  • Fireplace + river cabin — the sound of moving water and a fire in the background is a particularly atmospheric combination
  • Fireplace + honeymoon cabin — most of our romantic getaway properties center the fireplace as a design element, often with the bed positioned to face it
  • Fireplace + pet friendly — dogs tend to have strong opinions about fireplaces; several of our pet-friendly cabins feature them

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of fireplaces do Colonial Properties cabins have? Our cabin collection includes gas log fireplaces (most common), wood-burning fireplaces, and electric fireplaces. All three types are available October 1 through late February only. Check individual listing details or photos to confirm the fireplace type in a specific cabin.

Are fireplaces available year-round? No — all fireplaces in our Smoky Mountain cabin rentals (gas, wood-burning, and electric) are available from October 1 through late February only. Outside of this window, fireplaces are not in operation. If a working fireplace is important to your trip, plan your visit within the October–February season. For the best combination of fireplace availability and fall foliage, target mid-October through early November.

Is firewood provided for wood-burning fireplaces? Firewood is not included in your rental rate and is not stocked at the cabin. Guests planning to use a wood-burning fireplace should bring their own seasoned firewood or purchase it locally — firewood bundles are available at hardware stores, convenience shops, and roadside stands throughout Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Do not burn treated, painted, or green wood in cabin fireplaces.

What is the best time of year to book a fireplace cabin in the Smokies? Fall (September through November) and winter (December through February) are peak fireplace seasons in the Smokies. Fall foliage peaks mid-October through early November; winter brings the quietest conditions and lowest rates of the year alongside the most fireplace-appropriate weather. If a fireplace is central to your trip, these are the seasons to target.

Do fireplaces in cabin bedrooms cost more? Some of our higher-end and honeymoon-focused cabins feature fireplaces in the primary bedroom — a popular feature for romantic stays. These cabins are typically priced in the premium tier, but the bedroom fireplace itself isn't a separate charge; it's included in the nightly rate.

Can I use the fireplace in summer? No — all fireplaces in our cabin rentals are only available from October 1 through late February. If you're visiting in summer and want an outdoor fire experience, look for a cabin with a fire pit as an alternative.
